Today we finished the so-called “social reserve”. This year it includes a new strategy against trafficking in human beings, action against homelessness and loneliness and much more. BUT! I want to tell you about my child – the adoptees from Chile.

Under the Pinochet dictatorship, many children were stolen from their families and adopted into Western countries under the pretext of being orphans or voluntarily abandoned. This also happened to children who are now adult Danes. It is another black story from the international adoption system, where children have been robbed of their family, their background, roots and perhaps even identity.

Those children are now adults. And several have discovered that what they believed cannot be true.
We as a society owe them a thorough commission to uncover the mistakes and responsibilities of the Danish authorities in the WHOLE adoption system. I can’t get a political majority for that. But today the children – now adults – from Chile are getting help to maybe find their history and family from the Danish embassy. A small grant in the overall picture. Insanely important to those in question.
